It is painted in three parts:
one, the large shapes of the
composition structure;
two, the colour chords;
three, the notes on top.
Three movements of reel became
Three figures moving left to right
Fleeing or forced to move
Became three persons driven out of home
WW2
The bunch of keys is the pathos
of holding on to a bunch of keys
to a home one will never see again
There is a crabby clinging figure,
a broken heart that is the
ghost in shock, and
and a figure who still has hope
or roses in one’s heart
An explosion… that is war
and the family dog
what are all the loops?
they are arcs reaching out and
turned back on themselves
loops hold tight to nothing..
contrasted to circles holding
evenly all round… loops hold
tight to their source
an arc is graceful and hopeful
a loop is introspective anxious and sad…
having ventured so far.. finding nothing..
turns back on oneself despondent
there is a whole lot of holding and very little letting go
a ghost in shock a broken heart
a grasper…
and a figure who bears hope for the future…
branches of rose bushes…
to plant in the new place
the family dog looks backward
an explosion
the dispossessed…
a theme that will never leave us
as long as there is war
the whole challenge of
the painting is to create
hope to counterbalance
all that anxiety and sadness
it’s all moving toward the
crescendo of that large
white triangle
